Lucy Collins, Lucy Dreznin and Victoria Uwemedimo |
British School of Paris, France |
The COBIS Award is presented jointly to Lucy Collins, Lucy Dreznin and Victoria Uwemedimo for a significant contribution to wider School life. The three girls, who are in Year 12, adapted a well know text to produce a script for a school play in which KS3 & 4 students performed. The complexity of the achievement is conspicuous, auditions had to be organised and held, a cast identified, the text discussed, rehearsals put on, motivation kept up and high levels of enjoyment provided. The final piece was performed as the BSP Senior School play, in April 2010, and featured aspects of a musical. Needless to say it was a great success and a token of the three girls’ perseverance and drive. All actors involved discernibly enjoyed the experience as well as the final performances. The girls proved fine directorship and leadership skills. |

| Vartan Shadarevian |

I am recommending Vartan for this award because he is one of the most outstanding individuals that I have taught. What is most impressive about Vartan is not his superb academic performance but his sense of community and great desire to make a positive difference in the wider world. Vartan gives his time extensively, to all people, and always fully commits to helping in any way he can. His contributions to Doha College are extensive but some notable achievements include being an active voice on the School Council and helping run the thriving Model United Nations Society. |

I am recommending Rachel because of her leadership qualities and charitable works within Doha College. As a member of the Charities Committee she has spearheaded new ways to raise money for charities chosen by the student body. Her ability to organise and drive events has helped the committee to raise over QR45, 000 for Save the Children. Rachel gives of her time freely and her leadership qualities demonstrate her ability to motivate people and unite large groups of people towards a common goal. As a team member she is outstanding but can stand up and be counted when necessary. |

She does this instinctively, with compassion and little fanfare. |

It is difficult to exaggerate Ursula’s contribution to the charitable causes; she has raised money to pay for an indigenous girl from the Penan ethnic group in Sarawak to attend College, raised money for Earth Day and Peace Day, and also collected articles for the Penan Children gift boxes. She continually writes for school publications, contributes to assemblies and inspires all around her. Her contributions to school drama, sport and music have also been exceptional. |
| Milo Smith |
Jerudong International School, Brunei |
Milo is a member of the Sixth Form Student Council as a Boarding Representative. He has been a driving force behind many of the activities that have been carried out this year, particularly when raising funds for the Sixth Form charity, Pusat Ehsan. He has also helped to organise and support major events such as school socials, the Sixth Form Ball, the enrichment day and music concerts. Some of his finest work has been supporting the Drama department, operating the technology board for sound and lighting during many rehearsals and performances. Milo has been fully involved in the school’s Make A Difference programme by supporting the school’s Health Centre and helping to organise his tutor group’s Yearbook pages. In the Boarding House, he is Head Prefect of Eagle House. Ru Dee was also given the responsibility as Assistant Director of Grease, the school play for this year, a role which involved her monitoring, supervising and encouraging students from the ages of 7 to 17. Bradley has made an outstanding sustained contribution to the life of the School. He has a good natured attitude and has persevered in spite of considerable odds. He suffers from cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. Despite this, Bradley has played an active role in school events such as organizing and DJing at school discos and in helping organize fundraising activities such as preparing banners for DownRightKenya. Staff are always impressed by how thoughtful Bradley is and how considerate of others. He is keen to follow a career as a DJ and has put a considerable amount of effort into researching courses and accommodation. Much of this he has done independently. Bradley is full of integrity, polite and consistently encouraging to others. |
| Karan Garg |

Karan is an exemplary student who is always prepared, engaged and enthusiastic. He takes positive criticism very well and employs it in his future work. Karan has consistently performed to a high standard in all his IGCSE subjects throughout the year and often mentors other pupils in class with their work, thereby reinforcing his own learning. He has a positive attitude and an excellent work ethic which I have no doubt will pay off very well in his exam results. Karan systematically reviews completed work in order to improve his results. However, Lowri has shown great initiative when reflecting on the year group’s theme of poverty; she independently contacted the charity Poverello (a new link for BSB) arranging for students to visit a homeless shelter and offer friendship and encouragement to local homeless people in Brussels.
